Purpose of Position:
This position is directly responsible for managing the performance of complex financial statement audits of government agencies, special audits, agreed upon procedures and other attestation engagements for accuracy. The candidate in this position must be able to apply the appropriate American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Statements on Auditing Standards, U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) generally accepted Government Auditing Standards (YellowBook Standards) and U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circular A-133 (Single Audits) standards. The position will be responsible for managing the review of all audit reports submitted by independent public accountants (IPA’s) to the of OSA for approval and public release, managing the workpaper reviews done by IPA’s including case management. This position will also be responsible for managing and conducting evaluations of audit staff within the Financial Audit Division. This position reports to the Deputy State Auditor.

This position is a Pay Band 90.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess and maintain an active New Mexico license as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or apply for a reciprocal New Mexico CPA license if the CPA license is from another state or territory (other than Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands, which do not qualify) and six (6) years of experience conducting financial audits and attestation engagements, including four (4) years of supervisory experience.
Employment Requirements:
Must possess and maintain current license as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in New Mexico in accordance with New Mexico requirements. If the candidate has a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license from another state other than New Mexico the candidate will be required to apply for reciprocal New Mexico CPA license within 30 days of date of hire. If the candidate has a CPA license from Puerto Rio or the Virgin Islands the candidate does not qualify therefore does not meet the CPA requirement. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Working extended hours to include evenings and weekends may be required. Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
